Poetry: For Blanche

For Blanche, from a A Streetcar Named Desire:

The harsh, revealing light
shines ever so starkly cold
encircling the dark night
with a suffocating hold

In darkness deep, I hide
from the daylight so cruel
retreat to refuge inside
where my fantasies might rule

Oh, put a shade on 'yon lamp! I scream fire when all's well!
Best refuse, refuse, refuse to recant
than descend the depths of hell.

I make reality mine, my reality makes me
Speak not your false truths, so that I can be free
